Hanover, IN - Senior Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) kept a solid pace throughout the 8,000-meter NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships and he finished off the race in 26 minutes, 11.8 seconds to place 140th as just the third runner in Golden Knights' history to compete at the national event.
Fritz slowed only slightly in the final kilometers of the race, which equates to 4.97 miles. His first two kilometers saw him at a 6:15 clip total, while the third clip was 3:11. The final two kilometers were 3:19 and 3:20 as he rolled over the finish line almost exactly in the middle of the 275 runners who completed the event.
The most impressive part of Fritz's performance was his continuing upward mobility in the regional and conference standings. After placing 17th in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals last weekend, which earned him the right to attend the National Championships, Fritz was the 12th runner among all competitors in the region and surpassed all other runners in the conference after taking fifth at the league championships three weeks ago.
