Freshman Taliah Pounds (Watervliet, NY) is one of several newcomers for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team that has made an immediate impact early on for the Golden Knights, and the first-year forward was chosen as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Pounds, a 5-11 forward, scored a team-best 21 points in an 86-50 victory over SUNY Canton on Sunday as Clarkson enjoyed its largest rout of an opponent since the 2003-04 campaign. Pounds shot 9-for-16 from the floor and 3-for-5 from the line to get to 21 points, and also added in nine rebounds, including six on the offensive end, in 27 minutes of action.
On the young season, Pounds is averaging 14.3 points per contest and 8.7 rebounds per game. She is shooting 48.6 percent from the floor and ranks third on the team in minutes logged per game (30.3 mpg).
