Lake Placid, NY - Senior Cedrik Proteau-Dubois (Ste. Adele, QUE) took first place among over 60 skiers on both Saturday and Sunday, winning with the fastest time in three of the four runs, as the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team competed in its fourth event of the season at Whiteface Mountain this past weekend.

The Golden Knights' men were edged out on Saturday as they took second among seven teams, but came back to win Sunday's competition as the first place team among seven squads. The women also started slow, finishing fifth among nine teams on Saturday, but rallying to take third out of nine on Sunday.

Proteau-Dubois won the giant slalom on Saturday with a time of 1:47.41, finishing first in the opening run before taking third in the second. Sophomore Christian Perryman (West Lebanon, NH) came in fifth in 1:49.89 and junior David Simon (Montvale, NJ) was eighth in 1:51.91, finishing second in the second run. Other top performers for the Knights were Bill O'Connor (Mahopac, NY), who came in 18th, John Bennett (Queensbury, NY), who took 23rd, and Connor O'Toole (Owasco, NY), who was a spot behind Bennett in 24th. Outside the top 25 but in the top half of the field were Chris Gero (St. Albans, VT), who came in 27th, and Alex Slemp (Clifton Park, NY), who placed 31st. Will Eaton (Wilmington, NY) took 47th and both JP Phaneauf (Montreal, QUE) and Erik Obey (Brooklyn, NY) did not finish. Phaneauf probably would have lifted Clarkson to the win with a modest run after finishing third in the opener, but did not close out his final run.

For the women, Jill Clevenger (LaGrangeville, NY) was the top performer for the Knights with an eighth-place showing on Saturday, finishing in 1:56.81 out of 59 skiers. Hailey Gilmore (Woodbury, CT) came in 29th in 2:06.47 and Sarah Shafer (Petoskey, MI) was 31st in 2:06.79. Mycala Stebbins (Canandaigua, NY) placed 42nd for Clarkson, while Sophia LeBlanc (Cumberland, ME) did not finish.

On Sunday, LeBlanc came back to take the top spot for the Knights, coming in fifth among 51 skiers in 1:56.13. Clevenger repeated in eighth place in 1:59.87, and Shafer was 26th in 2:07.04 to round out the scoring. Stebbins and Gilmore finished in 42nd and 46th place, respectively.

For the men, Proteau-Dubois won both runs to take the title on Sunday in 1:47.47, while his classmate Phaneauf was third and second, respectively, to finish third overall in 1:49.32. Perryman came in seventh in 1:51.25, O'Connor was 14th in 1:54.62, and Slemp came in 16th in 1:55.79 to round out an impressive scoring run among the 65 skiers. Bennett (19th), O'Toole (21st), and Gero (29th) also performed well, while Simon, Eaton, and Obey did not complete their runs.
