Trailing by just two goals at the half, the Clarkson University Lacrosse team failed to generate any offensive production over the final 30 minutes and ended up losing 12-5 in non-conference play at Plattsburgh State on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who have lost three straight to fall to 3-4 overall, will look to get back on the winning track when they open Liberty League action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Vassar College.

Against Plattsburgh (6-1), Clarkson fell behind 2-0 midway through the first and trailed 4-1 with 5:11 remaining in the opening period. Sophomore Kyle Kasprzyk (Orchard Park, NY) tallied late in the first and senior Tyler Long (Liverpool, NY) scored to start the second quarter to cut the Knights’ deficit to 4-3. The Cardinals, however, ran off three consecutive goals to take a 7-3 with 11:42 left in the half.

Long and junior Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) scored back-to-back goals to close out the half, trailing 7-5. That would be all the scoring for the Green and Gold who were shutout in the second half. Plattsburgh made it 10-5 through 45 minutes and closed out the contest with two more scores in the fourth quarter.

Plattsburgh outshot the Knights 43-29 and controlled groundballs 26-15.

Long led the Knights with two goals and one assist. Kasprzyk, Huff and sophomore Brendon Shearin (Goffstown, NH) posted one goal apiece. Sophomore Matt McCabe recorded two assists.

Plattsburgh’s Kyle Norchi led all scorers with six points, including four goals.

Sophomore Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) made 12 saves on 24 shots through 55:05 of action. Classmate Pat Briggs (Baldwinsville, NY) played the final 4:55 and did not face any shots.
