David Kinney (Mexico, NY) rounded out his collegiate career a few weeks ago, but the awards continue to come in for the Clarkson University Baseball standout as he was selected as a d3baseball.com All-American Honorable Mention member.
Kinney, who was picked as a pre-season All-American and was a First-Team All-New York Region choice by the same website, earned Liberty League Player of the Year honors for the second straight season in 2012, leading the conference with a .467 mark, which ranks fifth in the country with only eight teams remaining active in the Division III College World Series. Kinney, chosen as the team's utility player as a first baseman and pitcher, was a dual threat in the conference all year as the league's standout hitter and one of the premier pitchers. He tossed seven complete games and finished with a record of 4-4 with one save. His won-lost record could easily have been better as he suffered three walk-off hits in a trio of one-run losses.
Kinney will go down as one of the more decorated student-athletes in Clarkson University Baseball history, and holds the career marks for hits (198), batting average (.402), slugging percentage (.637), total bases (314), doubles (51), home runs (19), and extra-base hits (74).
