Potsdam, NY - Senior Scott Henning of the Clarkson University Golf team paced a field of field of 35 golfers with a slick score of 70 as the Golden Knights took second by a single stroke at the Potsdam Fall Golf Invitational at the par-72 Potsdam Town and Country Club.
The Golden Knights "A" team shot 309 collectively, just one stroke behind the first Potsdam State team (308) and only one stroke ahead of SUNY Canton (310). Oswego State's squad shot 319, while Clarkson's "B" team scored 322 and Potsdam State's second group recorded a score of 329.
Henning's day was consistent as he shot 35 on both the front and back nine, recording a pair of birdies on the front with just a bogie on the ninth hole, and one birdie to go with eight pars on the back nine. His score was five strokes better than the second-best score of the day with three others swinging for a 75.
Freshman Brad Belote finished in a tie for eighth with a round of 78 for the Golden Knights, while Evan Cody (80) and Thomas Conroy (81) helped round out Clarkson's four scorers among its top five. Brian Billings, the fifth golfer in the group, shot an 86. Clarkson's second group was led by Anthony Monteleone and Matt Miller, with both scoring a seven-over 79. Freshman Andy Vadnais and junior Nick Helgeland also matched rounds as each scored an 82 and Jim Greg finished with an 85. Individuals Nate Zakreski (88) and Tyler Popp (89) also played outside of the team scoring.
