Potsdam, NY - Sophomore Camryn Careccia scored her third goal of the season as the Clarkson Women's Soccer team picked up a 1-0 win against Plattsburgh State on Saturday.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-1-1 overall on the season and will travel across town to take on SUNY Potsdam at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 3-1.

It was a very physical first half of play with both teams taking three fouls in the first ten minutes. The Golden Knights defense was able to stave off early opportunities from Madeline Saccocio blocking two shot attempts. Clarkson was able to capitalize on a Plattsburgh foul to take the lead 1-0 in the 32nd minute when freshman Ashley Abel put a shot on net that was initially stopped by Nichole Gibson. The rebound trickled to the right side where freshman Allison Coon was able to find Camryn Careccia in the middle for the finish. The game continued to be physical and neither team was able to create in the closing minutes keeping the score 1-0 at the half.

The Cardinals were able to gain back some control in the second half pressuring the Golden Knights defense. Madeline Saccocio was all over the net putting three shots on the frame early but was unable to solve sophomore Elyse Green. Giulia Mahoney pressured the Cardinals in the 76th minute, firing two shots on net, but she was unable to extend the lead for the Golden Knights. From that point on, Clarkson was able to keep Plattsburgh fairly quiet in their offensive zone pressure late in the game. Madeline Saccocio was blocked yet again by the Golden Knights defense in the final 10 minutes, and Elyse Green denied Ernesta McIntosh on a long shot in the 86th minute to keep the Cardinals scoreless.

Elyse Green registered six saves for her second shutout in two days, while Nichole Gibson had seven saves for the Cardinals. Clarkson enjoyed a modest advantage in shots (13-11) and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
