Middlebury, VT – Junior Thomas Conroy of the Clarkson University Golf team shot an even-par 71 and is just one stroke off the pace after the first day of the annual Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College at Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
The Golden Knights finished the day tied for ninth among the 22 participating teams with a four-player score of 299, 15 strokes over par. Clarkson is 12 strokes behind first-place Williams with 18 more holes to play on Sunday.
Conroy finished the day with a 71, tied for fourth along with seven other players, and just one stroke behind three players that finished the day one-under. Classmate Brad Belote ended the first day on the next tier, just one stroke behind with a one-over 72. Sophomore Chris Rust was inside the top half of the 113 competitors, tying for 43rd after 18 holes with a score of 76. Rounding out Clarkson's top four for its score of 299 was senior Brian Billings, who scored an 80 on his first day. Freshman Mike DiPaola, in his first collegiate competition, shot an 88 at the Ralph Myhre course.
