Clarkson women's soccer preview - Knights visit Potsdam State and Houghton

Posted

After being just minutes away from a 0-0 draw last weekend, the Clarkson Women's Soccer team takes a 1-1-0 record on the road this week as they travel across town to play Potsdam State Wednesday night at 7:30, followed by travelling to Houghton College on Saturday at noon. The Golden Knights hosted both teams last year.

The Green and Gold has seen recent success against the Potsdam State Bears, winning three straight matchups and posting a 17-6-3 record overall. Clarkson defeated Potsdam State 2-1 last year, and the two teams have played every year since 1987. In that time, the Golden Knights have outscored the Bears 51-23. Potsdam State is coming off a weekend of mixed results as they defeated New England College 4-1 before losing to Castleton State College 4-1 in the finals of the Collegiate Village Cup, a tournament hosted by the Bears.

Clarkson has only squared off once with Houghton College, a game that proved to be a 2-0 win last year in Potsdam for the Golden Knights. Jessica Budaj (Windsor, MA) and Megan Strijek (Schenectady, NY) both scored first half goals and goalkeeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY) did the rest, recording five saves in the winning effort. Houghton is 1-0-0 on the season, defeating Keuka College 4-0 this past weekend. They host Medaille College tonight before the Golden Knights come to town on Saturday.

Clarkson split their opening weekend games as part of the North Country Classic last weekend. Nikki Carfi tallied a goal and two assists as the Green and Gold defeated the Blue of Wellesley University 3-1 on Saturday. The second game of the weekend looked like it was going to end in a 0-0 draw, but Cortland State managed to score in the 107th minute to give the Red Dragons the 1-0 win.
