A late penalty kick goal denied the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team its first conference win of the season as the Golden Knights had to settle for a 1-1 tie at Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson is now 7-5-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the Liberty League while RPI is 5-5-6 overall and 1-2-3 in conference.

After a scoreless first period, Clarkson got on the board early in the second half. In the 54th minute, RPI tried to clear the ball from danger, but the clearance deflected off the face of Summer Gillespie and to the foot of Lauren Flynn who finished inside the far post.

With less than five minutes to play and the Green and Gold still clinging to the 1-0 lead, RPI was awarded a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Anna Demasi could not stop Dali Alarian's spot kick, allowing the Engineers to tie the game.

Neither team was able to create a goal in the extra sessions with the game finishing in a one-all draw.

RPI held a 22-15 advantage in shots and Clarkson led 5-3 in corner kicks. Demasi finished with eight saves for Clarkson with her RPI counterpart, Tori Riopelle, making five stops.

Clarkson will next host SUNY Canton on Tuesday night in a 6:00 pm non-conference matchup.
