POTSDAM -- Five different players scored their first goals of the season as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team routed Green Mountain College 5-0 on Wednesday night at Hantz Turf Field.

The first ever win for Clarkson over Green Mountain moves the Golden Knights' record to 3-4-0 while the Eagles fall to 1-3-0.

In the past few games, the Green and Gold have had trouble turning their shots into goals. On Wednesday, Clarkson took a whopping 43 shots, compared to only one for Green Mountain, and were able to finish five of them for their highest scoring game of the year.

Clarkson would take the lead just six minutes into the game. Nikki Carfi (Liverpool, N.Y.) played a long ball over the top to Madison Kather (Amherst, N.Y.) who settled it allowing Meranda Turner (Colchester, V.T.) to shoot it over the keeper's head. It was the first career goal for Turner and the first assist for Kather.

The next two goals came in quick succession. In the 11th minute, Carfi broke free on the right side of the goal and unselfishly crossed it to Anna Demasi (Colchester, V.T.) who only needed to perform a simple tap-in to double the Clarkson lead.

Two minutes later, the referee awarded Clarkson a penalty kick and Courtney Black (Gilbertsville, P.A.) buried it for her first career goal.

After halftime, Clarkson did not take their foot off the accelerator even though they owned a 3-0 lead. At the 64:53 mark, Brianna Weber (Hilton, N.Y.) streaked down the right side of the field and unleashed a cross.

Christina Pollard (Raymond, M.E.) was at the back post and she put Weber's cross past the keeper for her first career goal. Lauren Flynn (Andover, M.A.) would finish the scoring when she received a pass from Kather inside the box and slotted her shot to the right of the keeper and into the net.

Clarkson will head to Oswego State for a 4:00 pm game on Friday, hoping to return their record to .500 before Liberty League play begins.
