Junior Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) scored her game-high sixth goal with 57 seconds left in the first three-minute overtime session, but the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team could not hold off the Rochester Institute of Technology over the remaining time in extra play as the Tigers scored the final two goals to pull out a 13-12 double overtime win in Liberty League play at Hantz Turf Field on Friday afternoon.

After RIT’s Rebecca Lampson scored to make it 12-12 at 2:21 of the second three-minute overtime frame, the Tigers’ Carly Augustyn knocked in a rebound off a free position shot by Shelby Vakiener with one minute left in the first sudden-victory period for the game-winner.

RIT (6-4, 4-1) held a 9-6 lead after the opening 30 minutes, but Clarkson outscored the visitors 5-2 in the second half to make it an 11-11 game after regulation play. Cristaldi connected for back-to-back goals with under 12 minutes to play in the second to put the Knights on top 11-10. Lampson forced overtime, scoring RIT’s 11th goal with 4:06 left on the clock.

Cristaldi lead all scorers with eight points. Classmate Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) tallied four points, including three goals for the Knights. Senior Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) scored twice and classmate Laura Barlow (Latham, NY) connected once to round out the Clarkson goal scorers.

Lampson led the Tigers offensively with five goals. Vakiener tallied three goals along with two assists for RIT. Marlee Vlassis recorded two goals and two assists, while Augustyn, Tina Podrasky and Loren Azlein each scored one goal for the Tigers.

Clarkson out shot RIT 30-27 and held a slight edge in ground balls 17-16. Senior Hannah Walters (Amhesrt, NH) posted eight saves for the Knights. Katelyn Crane made 11 stops for the Tigers. VanDeValk picked up a game-high six ground balls.

At 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League, the Knights host the University of Rochester on Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. contest. RIT, which has won four straight, plays at St. Lawrence on Saturday.
