Junior Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) and sophomore Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) recorded three goals and one assist apiece, but the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team could not overcome and early deficit and lost its final game of the season, 14-10, to Rensselaer in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon in Troy, NY.
The Golden Knights fell behind 4-1 10 minutes into Saturday’s game and were behind 7-4 after 30 minutes. The Engineers (8-4, 4-2 Liberty League) scored three straight goals four minutes into the second half to build their lead to 10-4. Trailing 12-5 with just under seven minutes to play, Clarkson staged a rally by outscoring Rensselaer 5-2 down the stretch, but ran out of time in their bid to tie the game.
Sophomore Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) tallied two goals and one assist while classmate Kerrie Cline (Tuxedo, NY) and freshman Marissa Mastronardi (Cortland, NY) added one goal and one assist each.
Rensselaer outshot the Knights 31-16 and controlled groundballs 22-17. Junior Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) made 11 saves. Senior Cammie Hayes (Queensbury, NY) picked up a team-high three groundballs.
Clarkson finished the 2011 campaign with a 1-11 record.
