After a pair of decisive wins in Florida last week, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team could not continue its good fortune when it opened the Liberty League schedule as the Golden Knights loss 15-4 loss to perennial conference powerhouse Union College in Schenectady. NY.
Clarkson, which stands at 3-3 overall, will play William Smith in Geneva, NY on Saturday in conference action beginning at 2:00 p.m.
The Knights surrendered the first two goals of the game at Union, but quickly tied the score on a pair of goals by freshman standout Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY). The Dutchwomen (2-2), however, took control of the contest midway through the first half and closed out the first 30 minutes with a 7-2 lead.
Union built its lead to 8-2 to start the second half, and after the Knights got back on the scoreboard with goals by sophomore Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) and freshman Ashley Flick (Watertown, NY), the Dutchwomen went on a seven-goal run to close out the game.
The Dutchwomen outshot the Green and Gold 29-14 and controlled ground balls 23-18. Wright and seniors Cassie Grace (Potsdam, NY) and Kara DiNatale (Auburn, NH) each picked up a team-high three ground balls for Clarkson.
DiNatale stated the game in goal for the Knights and posted seven saves, while allowing 10 goals through 42 minutes. Sophomore Dani Tani (Heuvelton, NY) made one save on six shots over the final 18 minutes in goal for Clarkson.
Emily McGrail tallied a game-high four goals t0 pace Union.
