A dominant first half from Rensselaer was too much for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team as the Golden Knights fell 14-7 on Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson falls to 7-4 on the season with a 2-2 Liberty League record while RPI is now 5-4 and holds a 3-1 conference record.

The Engineers struck first, opening the scoring at 26:28, followed by junior Emma Jeffery (Baldwinsville, NY) tying the score with a goal at 25:50. RPI scored the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead, before sophomore Ashley Flick (Watertown, NY) scored at 20:21 to make it 3-2. However, other than a goal by sophomore Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY) at 7:41, the rest of the half belonged to RPI. They scored six of the final seven goals of the half and took a commanding 9-3 lead into the break.

Fayette scored her second goal to open the second half and freshman Taylor Collins (Syracuse, NY) followed with a goal of her own to make it 9-5. That would be as close as the Green and Gold got though, as RPI rang up five straight goals to make it 14-5. Sophomore Kate Dillon (St. Albans, VT) and senior Emma Oliver (Jericho, VT) scored for Clarkson in the closing minutes to make the final score 14-7.

Clarkson was outshot 23-21 and RPI also held a 16-14 advantage in ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Danielle Tani (Heuvelton, NY) made two saves in the first half and junior goalkeeper Courtney Quinn (Hinsdale, MA) made three in the second half. Fayette led the team with two goals and junior Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) had three assists. Collins had a team-high three ground balls with juniors Hanna Gleason (Massena, NY) and Mallory Fisher (Potsdam, NY) scooping up two apiece.

Clarkson will return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Skidmore for a 3:00 pm game.
