A late third-period goal stymied the 5th-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team which skated to a 2-2 tie with Cornell at Lynah Rink on Friday afternoon in Ithaca, NY.

Unbeaten in its last six games (5-0-1), Clarkson is now 19-3-3 overall and 7-3-3 in ECAC Hockey games, while Cornell is 8-8-4 overall and 4-5-4 in conference.

"I'm fairly happy with the way the team played today considering there wasn't a whole lot of flow to the game with all the penalties and tv timeouts'" stated head coach Matt Desrosiers. "Those types of games can be difficult to play in as a player, but I thought our team did a good job staying focused. We had quite a few good opportunities throughout the game on some odd-man rushes and breakaways but just couldn't convert on them. Although we didn't get the win, that point in the league standings is still important. We need to now focus on tomorrow's game against a good Colgate team."

For the second straight game, Clarkson fell behind early on. A little over halfway through the first period, the Big Red took the lead on a goal from Hanna Bunton, with Taylor Woods picking up the assist.

A few minutes later, Cornell had a chance to double its lead when a Clarkson penalty gave the Big Red an extra man opportunity. For just the second time this season however, Clarkson was able to turn around the man advantage and score a short-handed goal. Clarkson's goal came with just two seconds left on the penalty, with sophomore Amanda Titus feeding senior assistant captain Olivia Howe who was waiting in front of the Cornell net at 14:06.

Clarkson took the lead less than five minutes into the second period on a solo goal by freshman Rhyen McGill. It was the 10th goal of the season for the first-year forward.

After McGill's goal, the game went back and forth as the two teams tried to score the crucial fourth goal. The breakthrough goal finally came at the 12:24 mark of the third period. It was Cornell which scored it, through a Jess Brown goal with Kaitlin Doering and Bunton grabbing the assists. Neither team was able to score in the final minutes of the third period or in the five minute extra period and so both teams left with a single point.

Clarkson held a 36-27 advantage in shots, the 24th time this season the Green and Gold have outshot their opponents. Clarkson was 0 of 3 on power-plays while Cornell went 0 for 8 on extra man opportunities. Sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley made 25 saves for Clarkson while Paula Voorheis had 34 stops for Cornell.

Clarkson will try to avenge its most recent loss when the Golden Knights travel to Colgate for a 3:00 pm game on Saturday afternoon.
