In a physical contest that had 12 power-plays and 28 penalty minutes, the fourth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team stood tall and shutout tenth-ranked Princeton 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Cheel Arena.

Clarkson is now 14-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in ECAC Hockey games while Princeton falls to 5-4-1 overall and 3-4-1in conference.

"Tonight was a great win for us against a good Princeton team," said Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "We needed to pick up those league points in order to keep pace with the teams above us. I thought the team did a good job coming out strong to start the game, which was important for our confidence and momentum. We now have some time off to recharge the batteries a bit before ending the semester with some more important league games."

After failing to score against Quinnipiac on Friday night, Clarkson sprung out of the gates against the Tigers. Just 3:26 into the game the Golden Knights opened the scoring. It was freshman Josiane Pozzebon who got the goal, with a shot from the left side that found netting. Senior assistant captain Erin Ambrose and junior assistant captainCayley Mercer picked up assists on the goal.

Pozzebon's goal was all that separated the teams until Princeton pulled its goalie late in the third period. With the extra attacker on for the Tigers, Mercer and sophomore Lauren Lefler did a good job of trapping the puck against the boards in the Clarkson defensive end. Lefler was able to get the puck away from a Princeton defender and sent it to senior assistant captain Olivia Howe who took a shot from the blue line that found the empty Princeton net to give Clarkson an insurance goal. Howe added a second goal with only five seconds remaining in the contest. She tracked the puck deep into the Princeton end and sent the puck backwards, but it ricocheted off a Princeton skate and into the empty goal.

Clarkson took 51 shots to Princeton's 20. Both teams were 0-6 on extra man opportunities. Sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley made 20 saves for her fifth shutout of the season and the 14th of her career. Kimberly Newell made 48 stops for the Tigers.

Clarkson will return to action December 4th when the Golden Knights host Colgate
