Two-time defending National Champion Clarkson University Women's Hockey will be traveling overseas this upcoming season when the Golden Knights head to Belfast, Northern Ireland for the first international NCAA women's hockey games.
Clarkson will face off against Northeastern in a pair of games at the SSE Arena on January 4-5, 2019 as part of the Friendship Four.
"We are pleased that both Northeastern and Clarkson will bring women's ice hockey to Belfast," said Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna. "They are two traditionally strong programs who will entertain Belfast crowds with their skill and passion. We hope to expand into tournament format at some point."
The previous three seasons the Friendship Four has involved men's teams from ECAC Hockey and Hockey East playing over the Thanksgiving Holiday. This coming season women's team will participate in the international event with the Golden Knights and Huskies representing their conferences.
This past season, the Clarkson Men became the first ECAC Hockey team to win the Friendship Four, defeating Rensselaer (2-0) and Providence (4-2) on November 24-25 at SSE Arena in Belfast.
In 2017-18, Clarkson finished its third National Championship season in the 15-year history of the program with a 36-4-1 overall record, including a 19-3 first-place ECAC Hockey mark.
