Clarkson women's hockey makes generous donation to Helping Hands
The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team and the Lil’ Knights Club raised $2660.58 for the Helping Hands Foundation during a fundraiser sponsored by the Golden Knights for their February 1 game against St. Lawrence at Cheel Arena.
All proceeds from the ticket sales to the game between the Golden Knights and Saints, as well as spectator donations were given to the Helping Hands Foundation which supports families in need in the surrounding area.Clarkson had one of its largest crowds of the season at the game watching as the Golden Knights defeated their archrivals 3-1. There was also a friendly competition between the two presidents of the schools – Clarkson’s Tony Collins and St. Lawrence’s William L. Fox – during intermissions.
Nonperishable food donations were also accepted at Cheel Arena on game day and were also donated to Helping Hands.
"Potsdam has been home for me for four years now and the community has always offered amazing support to our team and our school,” said senior forward Danielle Skirrow. “When we realized the opportunity we had to return that support, we jumped at it.”
"This support was very evident Friday" said coach Shannon Desrosiers. "We were very happy with the way the event turned out. We hope this event brought more awareness of the Helping Hands organization and the positive effects it has within our community. Our players want to give a special thanks to our Lil' Knights club for their work in collecting donations throughout the game, as well as our loyal fans for their tremendous support for this fundraiser and our team all season long''.
