A pair of standouts for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team reached significant milestones and the Golden Knights' freshman sensation continued to roll as the Golden Knights skated to a dominant win on the road Friday evening defeating Yale 4-0 in New Haven, CT.
Senior goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) posted 18 saves in recording her fifth shutout on the season and 29th career whitewash, which tied the Clarkson career record, also held by Erica Howe '14.
Junior left wing Loren Gabel (Kitchener, ONT) tallied her 50th career goal and added two assists to highlight the offensive effort. Gabel is closing in on the coveted century mark with 89 career points (50-39).
Rookie right wing Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) recorded a goal and an assist to extend her point streak to all 11 games of her collegiate career. Giguere shares the team scoring lead with Gabel with 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists.
The Knights, ranked third in the country, stand at 9-1-1 overall and 2-1 in ECAC Hockey action. The Green and Gold play at Brown in Providence, RI on Saturday, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The Knights took the lead at Ingalls Rink with a pair of goals in a 73-second span of the first period. Freshman Tia Stoddard (La Mesa, CA) opened the scoring at 10:30 with her first career goal, finishing off assists from seniors Lauren Lefler (Windsor, ONT) and Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, IL). Gabel followed at 11:43 with her team-high 10th goal of the season with sophomore linemate, center Michaela Pejzlova (Pardubice, Czech Rep.) assisting.
Just 16 seconds into the middle frame, Giguere scored her eighth goal of the season with Gabel picking up the assist.
Clarkson's top line closed out the scoring at 13:03 of the third with Pejzlova connecting for her sixth goal of the year with Gabel and Giguere assisting.
The Knights outshot Yale (1-3-1) 42-18.
