After a lengthy break, an exhibition game against McGill University opens the New Year for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team. The Golden Knights, guided by sixth-year co-head coaches Matt and Shannon Desrosiers and assistant coach Matt Kelly will face off against the Martlets on Friday at Cheel Arena in a 7:00 p.m. contest.

Last in action on December 14 with a 6-2 victory over RIT in the Outdoor Game at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY, Clarkson owns a 14-4-2 overall record. Led by senior captain Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) and senior assistant captains Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) and Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT), Clarkson resumes ECAC Hockey play next weekend with a home-and-home series against North Country rival St. Lawrence University.

The Knights, who enter the 2014 portion of the schedule with a 5-2-1 league mark, are tied with the Saints for fifth place in the ECAC Hockey standings. After the exhibition game against McGill, the Green and Gold will face conference competition for the remaining 14 games of the regular season. Ranked sixth in the last USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls, Clarkson will play seven of its final 14 NCAA regular-season games at Cheel, and seven on the road, beginning with the January 10 match up against St. Lawrence at Appleton Arena in Canton, NY.

McGill, out of Montreal, Quebec stands at 19-5 overall. The Martlets have gone 4-3 against NCAA competition, defeating St. Lawrence 3-2 on November 16 in Montreal. McGill has also posted victories over ECAC Hockey foes, Yale (3-1), Princeton (4-1) and Dartmouth (3-2). The Martlets have lost to Providence (5-3), Northeastern (1-0) and Harvard (5-2).
