Potsdam, NY - Senior goalkeeper Anna Demasi recorded eight saves as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team picked up its first conference points in the standings with a 1-1 tie against Vassar College Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights saw their record move to 6-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the Liberty League, while Vassar's record now also stands at 6-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference matches. Clarkson will visit on Utica College on Tuesday night before returning home to play RIT on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson and the Brewers played even for most of the first half, but it was Vassar that had the better scoring chances in the early going. Demasi made one sprawling stop about 15 minutes into the contest and then denied another high shot a few minutes later when she deflected a ball off the crossbar. Those two stops proved key as Clarkson was able to pick up a goal at the 35:09 mark. Rachel Loecher took a corner kick from the right side but the ball was deflected back out near the sideline. With a better angle, Loecher then crossed the ball to the far post where Courtney Black was able to connect and knock the ball past Vassar goalkeeper Emma Nichols for her second goal of the season.

Demasi continued to make solid stops in the second half, but couldn't hold the Brewers offense entirely in check. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the second half, a cross couldn't be cleared by the Clarkson defense or corralled by Demasi, and the ensuing bobble found the foot of Lucy Brainerd, who was able to finish off the play and knot the game up at 1-1.

Vassar had chances in the two overtime periods, including one in the first few second of the first overtime and in the final seconds of that same period. With a few ticks left on the clock, Demasi realized there was little chance for the Brewers to get a good shot off and stopped short on clearing a ball, but the Brewers shot anyway and the ball went into the Clarkson goal, though it was a second past the buzzer sounding.

Vassar finished with a 13-10 edge in shots and a 6-2 lead in corner kicks. Demasi made eight stops and Nichols recorded four saves for the Brewers.
