Led by three freshman scorers, the fourth-ranked Clarkson Women's Hockey team clawed back from an early 2-0 deficit and defeated ninth-ranked Boston University on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena in Boston.

Clarkson is now a perfect 6-0-0 on the season while the Terriers fall to 3-2-0. The 6-0-0 start is the best start in eighth-year head coach Matt Desrosiers' career.

"Tonight was a great win for us against a good BU team," stated Desrosiers. "I thought we started the game well and played strong the opening 10 minutes but BU began to find their legs the remainder of the first period making it a good back and forth game. Although we scored a couple goals in the second period, I thought BU put some pressure on us and had a few quality scoring chances. Shea (Tiley) really stood tall for us making a number of great saves to keep the game close enough for us to mount our comeback. In the third period I thought we did a good job of keeping things simple and competing hard which paid off with a couple more goals. Our special teams also stepped up and made some big plays in the third period that helped us secure the win. Tomorrow should be another entertaining game."

The Terriers opened the scoring at 18:16 with a power-play goal by Kayla Tutino. It was the first power-play goal allowed by Clarkson this season and just the second time that the Knights trailed after the first period. The Terriers doubled their lead just 37 seconds into the second period on a goal by Maddie Elia.

That was all Boston scored though as the Clarkson defense began to limit the Terriers' opportunities. The Green and Gold got on the scoreboard themselves at 2:28 on a solo goal by freshman Emma Keenan. It was the first collegiate goal for the first-year defender. Clarkson tied the game with just eight seconds remaining in the second period. This time it was freshman Loren Gabel who scored.

Clarkson did not waste much time in the final period, as the Golden Knights took the lead 1:28 into the stanza. The eventual game-winning goal came off the stick of freshman Kelly Mariani with senior assistant captain Olivia Howe and fellow freshman Josiane Pozzebon picking up assists.

Clarkson added an insurance goal at 13:19 in the third period. Junior assistant captain Cayley Mercer tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season with senior assistant captain Renata Fast and sophomore Savannah Harmon grabbing the assists.

Clarkson finished with a 41-34 advantage in shots, the sixth straight game that Clarkson has outshout its opponent. Clarkson went 0-3 on power-plays while Boston scored on one of its four man advantage opportunities. Sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley made 32 saves, including 17 in the second period while her Terrier counterpart, Victoria Hanson had 37 stops.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
