With four different goal scorers and a 23-save effort by sophomore goaltender Steve Perry (Ligonier, PA) the Clarkson University Hockey team shut out Princeton 4-0 on Saturday night to complete a four-point weekend in the opening of ECAC Hockey play at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights, who defeated 14th-ranked Quinnipiac 2-1 in Friday's home league-opener, improved to 5-5-4 overall and to 3-1-2 in ECAC Hockey play, good for a second-place tie in the conference standings.

Clarkson controlled play from the start and outshot Princeton (1-6-1, 1-5-0) 31-23. The Knights went 1-3 on the power play and killed off all five of the Tigers' man-advantage opportunities.

Clarkson took the lead late in the opening stanza. Freshman Ben Dalpe (Paris, ONT) pounced on a loose puck at the top of the left circle and fired in a shot at 16:35 for his first career goal. Sophomore Troy Josephs (Whitby, ONT) and junior Christian Powers (Carlisle, ONT) set up the goal with strong work along the back boards to free the puck out to Dalpe.

The Knights broke the game open in the middle frame with three more goals to take a commanding 4-0 lead through 40 minutes.

Sophomore Jordan Boucher (St. Therese, QUE) started the goal scoring in the period with his second power-play marker of the weekend, finishing off assists from juniors Pat Megannety (Oakville, ONT) and Paul Geiger (Stouffville, ONT) at 1:38.

Senior defenseman James Howden (Edgeley, SASK) also scored his second goal of the weekend when he connected on a shot from the point at 8:02 after a faceoff win by Dalpe. Boucher also earned an assist.

Just 48 seconds later, Clarkson scored again when senior Joe Zarbo (Grand Island, NY) beat the Princeton defense to a puck at center ice and scored on a breakaway for his team-high sixth goal of the year. Junior Jeff DiNallo (Aurora, ONT) and freshman defenseman Terrance Amorosa (Kirkland, QUE) assisted.

Perry made 10 saves in the first period, six more in the middle frame and finished with seven stops over the final 20 minutes to post Clarkson's first shutout of the season and his fifth career whitewash.

Clarkson breaks from ECAC play this coming weekend with a two-game series at Hockey East's Merrimack College.
