Freshmen Rhyen McGill and Kelly Mariani both scored a pair of goals as the fifth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team defeated Vermont 5-0 on Friday night.

Clarkson is now a perfect 4-0-0 this season while Vermont falls to 0-3-0.

"I thought tonight was a great total team effort," said Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "The depth in our lineup showed tonight as we were able to get a lot of players into some different situations which helped contribute to the win. We will be looking for the same kind of effort tomorrow night as well."

The Golden Knights opened the scoring 13 minutes into the game when Mariani scored her first collegiate goal. Senior assistant captain Olivia Howe and junior assistant captain Cayley Mercer picked up assists on the score.

Clarkson added three more goals in the second period. First senior assistant captain Renata Fast scored her first goal of the season on a Clarkson power-play. Sophomore Savannah Harmon and McGill grabbed assists on the goal. Mariani added her second score five minutes later with Mercer assisting her. McGill scored her third goal of the year with less than two minutes left in the period. Sophomores Amanda Titus and Brielle Bellerive were credited with assists on the goal.

McGill added a fifth goal in the third period. Titus and fellow freshman Emma Keenan had the assists.

Clarkson held a staggering 31-12 advantage in shots. It is the fourth straight game that the Green and Gold have outshot their opponents. Clarkson scored on one of their two power-plays while killing off all four of Vermont's extra man opportunities. Sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley made twelve saves to complete her second shutout of the year and eleventh of her career.

The two teams will travel to Potsdam for a 3:00 pm game on Saturday afternoon in Cheel Arena.
