Another home game, another victory for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team as the Golden Knights are now 6-0-0 in Cheel Arena after defeating UConn 3-1 on Friday night.

Clarkson runs its record to 12-1-2 while the Huskies drop to 4-5-2.

"I thought we started the game out a little sluggish and didn't have the energy or focus we should have had," said Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "UCONN is a hard working team so if you aren't prepared to match or exceed their intensity they can make it tough on you. We made a couple adjustments after the first period that I thought helped us sustain some more pressure and gain energy as the game went on. I thought we had a strong third period and ended the game well so we need to make sure we carry that into tomorrow and have a good start to the game."

Although Clarkson held a 12-4 edge in shots in the first period, it was UConn who took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Margaret Zimmer's pass found Jordy Zacharias gliding through the middle of the Clarkson defense and Zacharias was able to direct her shot into the back of the net.

Clarkson continued to pressure the Connecticut net in the second period and it payed off with less than two minutes remaining. It was sophomore Savannah Harmon who did most of the damage for the Green and Gold. First Harmon picked up the puck behind her own net and sped past defenders deep into the UConn end. Her pass across the face of the net found the stick of senior captain Shannon MacAulay whose one-time shot tied the game at one. Just a minute later, Clarkson took the lead. This time Harmon scored on a wrist shot after junior assistant captain Cayley Mercer found her alone in the offensive end.

Clarkson continued to pile forward and pin the Huskies back in their own end. Clarkson took 22 shots in the period to Connecticut's one and the 22nd and final shot was the one that scored Clarkson's insurance goal. The third goal came off a scramble in front of the net and senior assistant captain Olivia Howe knocked it in. Junior Genevieve Bannon and Mercer picked up assists.

Clarkson finished with a 55-15 edge in shots, the 14th time this season that the Golden Knights have outshot their opponent. Neither team could score on man-advantage opportunities with Clarkson going 0-3 and UConn 0-2. Sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley had 14 saves for Clarkson while Elaine Chuli made 52 stops for Connecticut, the second time she has broken the 50 save mark against Clarkson.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 3:00 pm in Cheel Arena.
