POTSDAM -- Two goals from senior captain Shannon MacAulay helped the fifth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team beat Colgate 5-2 in the ECAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at High Point Solutions Arena.

Clarkson is now 27-3-5 and is unbeaten in 18 straight games. Colgate owns 20-8-7 record. Clarkson will try to win its first ECAC Hockey Championship tomorrow at 2:00 pm when the Golden Knights take on host Quinnipiac.

"We were really happy with the way the team played today especially in the second and third periods," stated Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "I thought we came out with good energy and did some good things in the first period but gave up a couple more chances then we would have liked. Once we settled in and focused a bit more on a few areas I thought we picked our game up. Our depth really showed tonight and was once again and major factor in our success. We will definitely need everybody playing their best tomorrow if we want to come away with a win."

Clarkson took advantage of its first power-play of the game. Senior assistant captain Erin Ambrose gathered the puck at the blueline and passed to MacAulay whose one-time shot found the back of the net.

Colgate took the lead with two goals in quick succession near the end of the first period. First, Megan Sullivan latched onto a long pass behind the Clarkson defense and scored on a breakaway. Less than 20 seconds later, the puck fell to Annika Zalewski in front of the Clarkson goal and Zalewski was able to lift a shot and score to give Colgate a 2-1 lead.

Clarkson rallied in the second period. Once again on the power-play MacAulay was able to find the back of the net at 2:13. Junior assistant captain Cayley Mercer wrapped around the back of the Colgate net and passed to MacAulay who was waiting in the crease for a tap-in. MacAulay now has 99 career points, including the game-winning goal in the 2014 National Championship which was played in High Point Solutions Arena.

The Golden Knights took a 3-2 lead at 10:56. Freshman Josiane Pozzebon lined up a shot from the top but before it reached the net, junior Jessica Gillham redirected the puck, leaving the Colgate goaltender helpless as it flew past.

The Green and Gold added two insurance goals in the third period. At 12:44, Mercer knocked the puck back to Ambrose off a faceoff and Ambrose unleashed a ferocious shot that zipped into the top corner of the goal. At 16:13, Pozzebon added the fifth and final goal when her shot bounced past the Colgate goalie and into the goal.

Clarkson finished with a 32-17 edge in shots. The Golden Knights connected on two of their five power-plays and killed the sole Raiders extra man opportunity. Sophomore goaltender

Shea Tiley made 15 saves for her 50th career win in the Clarkson net. Ashlynne Rando had 27 stops for Colgate.
