Troy, NY - Senior Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) scored a game-high 15 points, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team struggled from the field for the second straight game in a 66-45 Liberty League loss to Rensselaer Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights finished off the regular season with a record of 8-16 overall and 3-13 in the Liberty League, the most wins since the 2006-07 season. Rensselaer advanced to the conference tournament and is now 16-9 overall and 10-6 in league contests.

Both teams couldn't buy a basket in the early going, as the Knights didn't get their first bucket of the game until Jovanna Snead (Poughkeepsie, NY) ended a 0-for-10 run in the first seven minutes of the game. Fortunately, the Knights were only down by four points at the spot in the game as RPI wasn't much better in the beginning of the game. Following a 3-pointer from Turner midway through the half, Clarkson trailed by six points and though the Engineers pulled away slightly in the final eight minutes, a bucket from Taliah Pounds (Latham, NY) with one second left in the half had the Knights behind by just eight, 29-21.

After another Carey Turner basket in the opening minutes of the second half, Clarkson endured a five-minute scoreless stretch that altered a nine-point deficity into a 19-point margin as RPI went on a 10-0 run and stepped up its defensive effort, forcing five turnovers and four missed shots over a 5:33 gap. Clarkson got back on its game offensively, but another five minute run between free throws from Turner pushed the Engineers out by 20-plus points.

Turner finished with 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Clarkson, pushing herself past the 900-point plateau in her career to become only the ninth player in Golden Knights' history to reach that mark. Brooke Butkovsky (Monroe, CT) added 13 rebounds and three steals for the Green and Gold.

For RPI, Hillary McKinley had 12 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and four blocks. Jen Rock and Lauren Hayes also added 10 points for the Engineers.
