The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team bounced back from an ugly loss on Friday night to defeat Rensselaer 2-1 on the road on Saturday afternoon in ECAC Hockey action at Houston Field House in Troy, NY.

The Golden Knights, who lost at Union 2-1 on Friday, snapped a three-game winless stretch (0-2-1), to improve their record to 5-3-4 overall and to 1-2-1 in the conference. Clarkson returns to Cheel Arena next weekend hosting Quinnipiac and Princeton.

After a scoreless first period at RPI, Clarkson built a 2-0 lead midway through the third stanza. Junior Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) opened the scoring with her fifth goal of the season at 2:42 of the middle frame. Sophomore Shelby Nisbet (Wiseton, SASK) set up the goal with her first assist of the season. Off a faceoff victory by Clarkson, Nesbit flipped the puck up to Skirrow at the top of the left circle. Skirrow shifted around a defender and fired a shot from the mid-slot then went five-hole for the 1-0 lead.

Sophomore defenseman Vanessa Plante (Riviere-du-Loup, QUE) came through with the deciding score on her first career goal at 13:56 of the final period, finishing off assists from classmate Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) and senior Kali Gillanders (Kyle, SASK).

The Engineers cut the Clarkson lead to one with a power-play goal by Laura Guillemette at 15:01 on their only shot of the period. The Knights’ defense shut down RPI the rest of the way as the Green and Gold earned their third straight victory over the Engineers.

Clarkson outshot RPI by a 2-to-1 margin, 28-to-14, including 20-6 over the final 20 minutes.

Sophomore Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) posted 13 saves

The Knights were 0-of-2 on the power play, while the Engineers went 1-of-4 with the man-advantage.
