Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) wrapped up a memorable weekend at Cheel Arena with a two-goal outing in the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team’s 5-3 ECAC Hockey victory over Brown on Saturday. The senior right wing who was the hero in Friday’s 2-1 overtime triumph over Yale with the game-winning tally late in the extra session, established herself as the Golden Knights’ all-time leading goal scorer on Saturday in the win over the Bears.

Waldie, who has played in 137 career games, now has 64 goals, passing Marie-Jo Gaudet ’09 (62 goals) for first place on the Clarkson goal-scoring chart. She is second all-time in points for the Green and Gold with 115, trailing only Britney Selina ’10 (148 points).

After a slow start to the New Year, Clarkson is gaining momentum as the stretch run of the regular season begins, having won three of its last four games. The Knights, who recorded their second weekend sweep of the season with the wins over Yale and Brown, stand at 9-13-3 overall and 6-6-1 in ECAC Hockey.

Clarkson took control early against Brown (2-14-3, 1-8-3) and jumped out to a 3-1 first-period lead. After a scoreless second period, the Bears tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of power-play goals early in the final frame. The Knights, however, were bale to get back on track and scored twice over the final six minutes to gain the win.

Junior Gabrielle Kosziwka (Limehouse, ONT) started the scoring at 3:02 of the first when she found a loose puck just outside the crease and lifted in her third goal of the season. Junior Kali Gillanders (Kyle, SASK) and freshman Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) assisted.

Waldie then went to work adding two more goals to her career total to set the new record at Clarkson. At 9:16, during a scramble in front, Waldie knocked in the puck to become the Knights’ all-time leading goal scorer with her 63rd goal at the University. Sophomore Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) and freshman Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) assisted.

Waldie connected again finishing off a perfect pass across the crease from freshman Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) for her 12th goal of the season, a power-play marker at 14:13. Sophomore defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) also assisted.

Brown got on the scoreboard at 18:25 when Alena Polenska’s shot form the bottom of the left circle found its way through a screen in front and past Clarkson freshman goaltender Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT).

After a scoreless second period, Brown evened the score with power-play goals from Laurie Jolin and Jessica Hoyle at 2:30 and 6:06, respectively.

Clarkson answered back at 14:07 when Rattray tallied on the power play for the game-winner on her third goal of the season.

Skirrow sealed the win with her seventh goal of the season, finishing off a 2-on-1 from senior Daris Tendler (Verwood, SASK) at 16:13.

Clarkson dominated on the shot chart with a 35-19 advantage over the Bears. The Knights were perfect on the power play going 2-of-2. Brown was 2-of-3 with the man-advantage.
