Sophomore Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) posted 30 saves, including 14 several clutch stops in the final seconds of regulation, and three different Golden Knights scored goals as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team ran its winning streak to six games with a 3-2 ECAC Hockey victory at Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. Strong down the stretch with a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1), Clarkson has clinched a home-ice berth in the upcoming conference playoffs.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Knights hold down third place in the league standings with a 14-4-2 ECAC Hockey mark. The Green and Gold are four points in front of fifth-place Dartmouth and hold the tie-breaker (a win and a tie) over the Big Green. Clarkson, which has reached the 20-win mark for the fourth time in the nine-year history of the program with a 20-7-5 overall record, closes out the regular season playing at Cornell and Colgate next weekend.

Playing on the road, the Knights got off to a quick start at TD Bank Sports Center, taking a 3-0 lead early in the second period against Quinnipiac (15-14-2, 10-8-2). The Knights then held off the Bobcats to complete the weekend sweep with another one-goal victory. On Friday, the Knights skated to a 2-1 win at Princeton.

Despite having to kill off three Quinnipiac power plays in the first period, Clarkson controlled play through the opening 20 minutes and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Knights outshot the Bobcats 13-9 and received goals from senior Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) and sophomore Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB). At 9:45, Baribeau finished off a hard-working assist from Styner for her 16th goal of the season and 62nd career marker. Styner collected her second goal of the weekend at 16:40 when she deflected in a high-shot from the point by junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB).

Clarkson showed no signs of letting up when the second period started, taking a 3-0 lead shortly after killing off a Quinnipiac power play. Just 1:48 into the middle frame, sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) scored on a breakaway for her team-high 17th goal of the season.

Quinnipiac got on the scoreboard with a power-play marker at 7:03 of the middle frame as Erica Uden Johansson connected off assists from Nicole Kosta and Regan Boulton.

With 2:56 remaining in the third, Kate Wheeler made it a one-goal game. With their goaltender out for the extra attacker, the Bobcats pressured in the closing minute, but Howe stood tall and finished with 14 saves in the final period.

Quinnipiac held a slight 32-31 advantage in shots. Clarkson went 0-of-5 with the power play and killed off four of the Bobcats five man-advantage opportunities.
