NEW PALTZ -- Without losing a set all weekend, the Clarkson University Volleyball team won its second straight Hawks Invitational on Saturday, beating New Paltz and Ithaca College in three set apiece.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-3 overall, while New Paltz dropped to 10-2 and Ithaca fell to 5-4. Clarkson will begin the conference season on Tuesday when it hosts St. Lawrence University.

The first set against New Paltz was back and forth, but Clarkson controlled play in the final two sets and never trailed winning 25-21, 25-20, 25-12. Junior setter Lani Durio (Austin, TX) posted her second straight double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs while adding in six aces.

Freshman hitter Victoria Kirkemo (Englewood, CO) and Aishvina Arasu (Brea, CA) struck for 13 and 12 kills, respectively, with Kirkemo adding in 13 digs. Kirstie Shurie (LaCanada, CA) led the team with 25 digs and Erika Chin (Katy, TX) contributed 13 digs and three aces.

Against Ithaca, Clarkson handled the Bombers in three sets with a final score of 25-19, 25-17, 25-17. Durio's solid serving continued as she had six aces to go along with 34 assists. Freshman Lauren Hutchinson (Spring, TX) swung at a .450 percentage with 11 kills and only two errors in 20 attempts, and sophomore Adrienne Walker (Centennial, CO) was nearly as effective with eight kills and only a pair of errors in 15 swings.

Arasu led the team with 13 kills against Ithaca, and Erika Chin produced 13 digs and five more aces.

"To say that I'm pround of the girls' performance is probably an understatement," head coach Johan Dulfer said. "I thought we played one of our best matches of the young season against New Paltz. We really came out determined and won the serve-pass battle quite comfortably. Any time you do that, you are going to be in a good position to win, but on top of it we also played outstanding defense and we were aggressive at the net, two things we that we worked on all week in practice. Against Ithaca, we ran out of gas a little but, but we did enough good things to pull out a solid win. We're just happy with a good weekend."
