Clarkson Volleyball preview - Knights take on Potsdam on Wednesday

After facing three NCAA Tournament teams this past weekend, the Clarkson University Volleyball team won't get much rest as they face crosstown rival Potsdam State Wednesday night at Maxcy Hall.

Both teams enter the midweek match with 2-2 records, with Clarkson narrowly falling to 11th-ranked Mount Union (five sets) and 20th-ranked Juniata (four sets) this past weekend. The Golden Knights also downed Richard Stockton, a team that has reached the NCAA Tournament five consecutive years, and Buffalo State, last year's regular-season SUNYAC winner.

Clarkson has controlled the series against the Bears since the dawn of the new century, holding a 29-4 record against Potsdam since the start of the 2000 season, including 17 conseuctive victories where the Knights have gone 51-11 over the course of 62 sets. Just three of those matches have gone to five sets, but Potsdam has stepped up its play against Clarkson in the last three matches, winning one set in each.

Senior Erika Chin (Katy, TX) was Clarkson's selection for the All-Tournament team this past weekend at the Red Dragons Invitational (hosted by Cortland), averaging 5.53 digs per set. Classmate Lani Durio (Austin, TX) posted 8.88 assists per set in the opening four matches, while Ashvina Arasu (Brea, CA), Victoria Kirkemo (Englewood, CO) and Adrienne Walker (Centennial, CO) each averaged better than two kills per set.

Potsdam's offense was fairly quiet over the weekend, but the Bears made up for it by keeping the defense off balance with 52 aces in 17 sets. Jenna Blujus averaged better than an ace per set (1.06) and Allie Romaniello was just behind that pace (0.73 saps).
