Geneva, NY - Senior Andrew Gelston (White Plains, NY) was one of three runners to finish in the top six for the Clarkson University Cross Country team in the men's race at the Cross Country-Only Championships (CCOC) at Seneca Lake State Park, leading the Golden Knights to a first-place finish among 17 participating teams.

Clarkson's men came in first with a team score low of just 46 points, 31 ahead of second place SUNY ESF. Rounding out the top five were SUNYIT (123), Hartwick (144), and Penn State Altoona (166). The Golden Knights women nearly matched the effort of the men, placing second among 16 teams with 51 points, trailing only William Smith (44). Hartwick (76), SUNY ESF (115), and Wells (181) were the third, fourth, and fifth place teams, respectively.

Gelston ran the event in 27:15.77 to finish third overall in the men's 8,000-meter event, while junior Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) cross the finish line just two seconds later for fourth. Senior Patrick Carroll (Queensbury, NY) took sixth in 27:28.22 to nearly clinch the team score race early on. Sophomores Austin Holbrook (Corning, NY) and Adam Merkwan (Meredith, NH) took care of that inevitability by taking 16th and 17th place, respectively, to round out the team score of 46 points.

On the women's side, sophomore Sarah Governale (Wading River, NY) maintained her season-long spot as the top runner for the Knights' women, taking second among 144 runners in the 5,000-meter event in 19:06.42. Senior Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY) pushed for top spot honors among the Clarkson women by taking third, 16 seconds behind Governale. Freshman Chelsea Farinacci (Huntington, NY) claimed ninth in 20:29.54, while senior Arianne Loeber (Rhinecliff, NY) and Meaghan McKenna (Hamburg, NY) each finished in the top 20 as well to close off the team scoring for Clarkson.
