SALISBURY, MD. --For the second straight day the Clarkson University Softball team found itself on the losing end against a pair of formidable foes, falling 9-1 against The College of New Jersey in the opener and then 8-0 versus 11th-ranked Salisbury in game two.

The Golden Knights, winless in their first four games of the season, will try to get on track later this week while in Florida.

On Saturday, Clarkson and The College of New Jersey needed an extra inning to decide things, but the Lions came out swinging on day two. New Jersey scored one in the first on a fielder's choice, but then tacked on two in the second on a two-run single by Jess Santelli, and another in the third on a sacrifice fly by Kristen Fitzsimmons to make the score 4-0. Clarkson narrowed the lead to three when Chelsea Elliott drove home Raeanna Dunn in the top of the fourth, but the Lions picked up four in the bottom half of the frame. Steph Vuono delivered a solo homer in the fourth and then Madison Levine drove in three on her bomb to make it 8-1. The game ended in the bottom half of the sixth when Gaby Bennett drove in TCNJ's ninth run with a single.

Dunn reached base in all three of her plate appearances with a pair of hits and a walk, while Elliott went 1-for-3 for Clarkson. Maggie Stark took the loss for the Knights, recording eight outs before being relieved by Jamie Bridge, who pitched the final three innings. For the Lions, Sam Platt went 4-for-4 and Jess McGuire had three hits in four at bats. Jess Santelli and Madison Levine each went 2-for-4 as well. Ashtin Helmer came away with the win for TCNJ, allowing just three hits and two walks over six frames.

In the second game, Salisbury pounced on the Knights with seven runs in the first two innings. Molly Simpson hit a two-run homer in the first and Kim Dorsey drove home two more on a single to make the score 4-0 after one frame, and in the second Simpson had another run-scoring single to make the score 5-0. Paige Knussman also singled home a run in the second and Dorsey added another RBI with a sacrifice fly. After a scoreless third, Dorsey drove in her fourth run of the game with a single in the fourth inning.

Bridge got the lone hit of the game for Clarkson, recording a double for the Knights, and both Elliott and Erika Jensen worked walks. Meg Tully took the loss for Clarkson, and Katie Pelton came on to pitch the final 3.2 innings, allowing three hits against the 14 batters she faced. For Salisbury, Simpson went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three more driven in and Dorsey was 2-for-2 with four RBI. LeAnne Collins and Paige Knussman each went 2-for-3. Annah Brittingham went three innings to earn the win while Annie Pietanza closed out the game with two flawless frames.
