In another close game between the Clarkson University Hockey team and Colgate, the Golden Knights came up short, falling to the 17th-ranked Raiders 2-1 in ECAC Hockey at Cheel Arena on Friday night.

Clarkson, which saw a three-game winning streak on its home ice come to end, falls to 7-9-4 overall and to 4-2-2 in ECAC Hockey. The Knights, who are 4-5-4 in one-goal games this season, host Cornell on Saturday.

In the seventh consecutive game decided by one goal-or-less between Clarkson and Colgate (12-6-1, 4-2-1), the Raiders scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart in the second period to earn their third straight win.

Clarkson opened the scoring late in the first period. With just one second left on the only power play of the stanza, the Green and Gold grabbed the initial lead. Sophomore defenseman James de Haas (Mississauga, ONT), the Knights' leading scorer from the blueline, finished off a passing combination from juniors Jeff DiNallo (Aurora, ONT) and Kevin Tansey (Hammond, ONT) with a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot at 18:18 for his fourth goal of the season and 10th career tally.

Colgate gained the lead in the middle frame with a pair of goals 43 seconds apart midway through the period. John Lidgett netted the Raiders' first goal when his shot from the left circle slipped in past Clarkson's sophomore goaltender Ville Runola (Raisio, Finland) at 9:59. Colgate connected again moments later when Tylor Spink and his brother Tyson Spink got behind the Knights' defense at the Clarkson blueline. Tylor Spink completed a 2-0 break that Runola had no chance on to give the visitors the lead at 10:42.

The Knights, who had 28 shots and held Colgate to a season low 15, controlled play in the final stanza with an 11-3 shot margin, but could not come up with the equalizer.

The Knights scored on their only power-play opportunity of the game and shut down the Raiders on their two man-advantage attempts.

Sophomore Steve Perry (Ligonier, PA) got his 15 start of the season in the Clarkson net and blanked the Raiders in the opening 20 minutes, making seven saves. Perry, however, was shaken up late in the stanza and did not come out for the second period.

Runola played the final two periods for the Knights and finished with six saves.

Charlie Finn made 27 saves to earn the road win in the Colgate crease.
