Clarkson rolls to 5-2 win at Colgate

With a 5-2 win at Colgate on Friday night the Clarkson University Hockey team continued its roll in ECAC Hockey play going 5-0-0 in the league for its best start in conference play in 22 years.

Ranked 7th/8th in the national polls, the Golden Knights stand at 9-3-1 overall and will face off in Ithaca on Saturday against 5th/6th-ranked Cornell in a showdown between the top two teams in ECAC Hockey.

Freshman Josh Dickinson (Georgetown, ONT) and sophomore Sheldon Rempal (Calgary, ALB) continued their scoring prowess with two goals apiece as the Knights snapped Colgate's (6-2-4, 3-1-1) nation-leading seven-game unbeaten streak and handed the Raiders their first loss of the season at Class of 1965 Arena.

One of the hottest teams in the country entering the game, Colgate took the initial lead with a power-play tally from Bobby McMann at 10:20 of the first. From then on, however, it was all Green and Gold as Clarkson rattled off five straight goals to skate away with its third consecutive win on the road.

Dickinson, who has a five-game goal-scoring streak, started things of at 13:38 of the first, converting on the power play from classmate Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT) and sophomore Haralds Egle (Liepaia, Latvia).

Clarkson's captain Nic Pierog (Georgetown, ONT) put the Knights in the lead for good, knocking in a rebound at 5:16 of the middle frame with linemates, senior Brett Gervais (Corona, CA) and junior Marly Quince (Sioux Lookout, ONT) assisting.

The Knights stormed out in the final stanza with a pair of goals in the opening three minutes to take full control of the contest. Rempal scored his first of the night, a power-play tally 54 seconds in. Senior defensemen Kelly Summers (Golden Lake, ONT) and Terrance Amorosa (Kirkland, ONT) set up the score.

At 3:03, Dickinson scored again for his seventh goal over the past five games. Freshmen linemates Kevin Charyszyn (Jamison, PA) and Jacome, with his second helper of the game, assisted. Jacome has picked up all nine of his assists in the last five games.

Clarkson's leading scorer, Rempal added his second goal of the game and team-high 10th of the year at 8:31 to put the Knights on top 5-1. Sophomores Greg Moro (Edmonton, ALB) and Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) picked up the assists.

The Raiders tallied with one second left, a power-play goal from Adam Dauda.

Clarkson outshot Colgate 33-29. Sophomore Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) made 27 saves as the Green and Gold won their first game in Hamilton since February 3, 2007.

The Knights' power play continued to click, going 2-of-3. Colgate, with the late power-play goal, also went 2-of-3 with the man-advantage.
