Senior Andrew Klem (Dalton, MA) and freshman Ashley Forshey (Scotia, NY) led the Clarkson University Nordic Ski teams to an impressive start to the 2013 campaign as the Golden Knight Men and Women won their events at the Army Invitational held at Ethan Allen Biathlon Center, Jericho, VT on January 19-20.
Klem paced the Golden Knight Men to first-place showings in Saturday’s 10K Classic and Sunday’s 10K Skate races. Klem was the top skier in both events, finishing with a winning time of 34:01 in the classic and crossing the line first in the skate at 37:06.
Forshey was the women’s leading racer as Clarkson won both the classic and skate events. Forshey posted the best time in the classic at 43:33 and skate at 41:10.
Freshman Eric Mallery (Webster, NY) placed fourth in both the men’s classic (35:05) and skate (37:23). Senior Zach Russo (Fayston, VT) was fifth in the classic (35:26) and third in the skate (37:14).
Sophomore Olivia Dawson (Scottsville, NY) was fifth for the women in the classic (48:17) and fourth in the skate (42:42). Junior Eleanor Vane (Fairport, NY) finished seventh in the classic (49:45), while classmate Erin Corrigan (Remsen, NY) was sixth in the skate (45:01).
