Clarkson Nordic skiing sweeps USCSA Regionals

For the 31st straight year, the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team will compete at nationals after both the men's and women's squads came in first place at the USCSA Regionals.

The women's team had two different individual winners, with senior Olivia Dawson (Scottsville, NY) coming in first in the 8.5K Classic and junior Ashley Forshey (Scotia, NY) finishing fastest in the 0.8K Sprints. Dawson finished with a time of 27:17 in the 8.5K Classic with Forshey coming in third in a time of 28:05. Sophomore Katie Dunn (Penfield, NY) was the only other Golden Knight to finish in the top 10, finishing in seventh with a time of 31:36. Forshey had a time of 2:55 in the Sprint with Dawson just behind her in second place with a time of 3:02. Dunn once again finished in seventh with a time of 3:11 while senior Taryn Dausman (Syracuse, NY) rounded out the top 10 with a time of 3:16.

For the men's team, junior Eric Mallery (Webster, NY) was the top finisher in the 8.5K Classic, coming in third with a time of 23:36. His brother, freshman Peter Mallery (Webster, NY) came in seventh with a time of 24:35. Just behind him was junior Ben King (Jericho, VT) and then freshman Brian Chrzan (Clifton, Park, NY) who had times of 24:51 and 25:06 respectively. In the 0.8K Sprint, Peter Mallery was the top finisher with a time of 2:28 with King finishing in second just a second behind him. Eric Mallery was fourth with a time of 2:30 and Chrzan came in tenth with a time of 2:31.

In the 15K Skate on Sunday, Forshey knocked another second place finish with a time of 58:01. Dawson and Dunn were sixth (1:00:47) and seventh (1:03:33) respectively and Dausman came in tenth (1:04:40). On the men's side, Eric Mallery placed in fifth with a time of 51:22. The quartet of Peter Mallery (51:25), King (51:44), Chrzan (52:52), and senior Paul Ferrer (San Antonio, TX) (54:26) claimed seventh through tenth.

Clarkson will travel to Bend, OR for nationals starting on March 2nd.
