CANTON -- Freshman Trevor Blackwell (Pittsford, NY) tallied his first career goal early in the second half as the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team salvaged a split with a 1-0 victory over Oneonta State in the North Country Classic tournament held on the campus of St. Lawrence this weekend.

The Golden Knights, 1-1 overall on the season, will open up the home portion of the schedule on Tuesday when they host SUNYIT at 6 pm at Hantz Turf Field.

Following three scoreless halves to open the season, the Golden Knights were happy to break the ice on the 2011 season when Blackwell scored in the 54th minute. Senior Steven Davis (Otego, NY) send a cross through the box and Blackwell was able to head a shot past Oneonta goalkeeper Daniel DeBottis.

Clarkson was able to hold off a few charges by the Red Dragons late, beating Oneonta for the first time in two tries since the team ended its run as a Division I program a few years ago.

DeBottis made three saves for the Red Dragons, while Saverino Spagnolo (Ottawa, ONT) made five saves in his first career collegiate shutout. Oneonta owned a 15-9 edge in shots and also led the Golden Knights in corner kick opportunies, 6-2.
