POTSDAM-- In the head coaching debut of Chris Taylor, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team defeated Moravia College 2-0 in the opening round of the North Country Classic Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The win improved Clarkson's record to 1-0 while Moravia fell to 0-1.

Clarkson started the game quickly, peppering the Moravia goal with shots, including two in the ninth minute that drew saves from the Moravia keeper, Billy Borland. However, the Golden Knights could not break through until the introduction of Maximilian Leetz (Bruedx, Germany). Six minutes after subbing on, Leetz beat his defender and squared a pass to Tucker Wilcox (Broadalbin, N.Y.) who calmly slotted it to the right of the keeper for the first goal of the season.

The score would remain 1-0 until the 77th minute when Leetz was able to grab a goal to go along with his assist. Kevin Calnan (Winchester, M.A.) crossed in a corner kick and the senior transfer who rose to head it into the back of the net.

Clarkson outshot Moravia 12-6 and also held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Borland finished with 7 saves, while Clarkson's sophomore keeper, Michael King (Verona, N.J.) collected one save and his first shutout of the season.

Clarkson returns to action TODAY against SUNY Cortland at 1:00pm in the final round of the North Country Classic at Hantz Turf Field.
