A second-half goal was not enough as the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team fell to Buffalo State 2-1 on Friday night on Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights' record drops to 2-3-1 while Buffalo State improves to 5-1-1.

Buffalo State took the lead in the first half on two different corner kicks. The first came in the 12th minute when Sammy Wasson's corner found Bass Sarr on the backpost and Sarr headed the ball into the back of the net. The Bengals doubled their lead in the 35th minute. This time, the ball came in off a corner kick and bounced around in the Clarkson box before August Finn was able to direct it into the Clarkson goal.

The second half saw an energized Clarkson take the field. The increased offensive pressure finally reaped rewards in the 77th minute. Kevin Calnan drove at the Buffalo State defense and laid a pass into the path of Tucker Wilcox. Wilcox took a touch and then ripped a long shot that beat a diving Bengal goalkeeper. It is the fifth goal of the season in just six games for Wilcox.

Clarkson had a golden opportunity to add a second goal and tie the game in the 88th minute. Maximilian Leetz beat a defender down the right side and swung in a cross that flew just inches past the head of Calnan who was open on the back post. That was the last chance Clarkson got though, and Buffalo State was able to safely see out the game and complete a 2-1 victory.

Buffalo State held an 8-6 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Riley McDonald started the game in goal for Clarkson, making two saves in 45 minutes of action. Michael King played the second 45 minutes and made one save. William Banahene made one save for the Bengals.

Clarkson will travel to Cortland for a 4:00 pm game on Saturday afternoon.
