POTSDAM -- For the first 70 minutes, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team had stood toe to toe with Plattsburgh State, but two late goals drove Plattsburgh to a 3-1 win on Wednesday night.

The Golden Knights see their record fall to 4-3-1 while Plattsburgh goes to 5-2.

Plattsburgh struck first, within the first eight minutes. Nick Parella crossed the ball into the box and Nicholas Laurent was at the back post to head the ball into the net. Plattsburgh continued to threaten to double their lead, as they took 11 shots in the half, seven more than Clarkson.

However, the Green and Gold defense dug their heels in and were able to keep the scoreline at 1-0 heading into halftime.

As the second half started, Clarkson came out energized and began to create more offensive chances. Marco Parisi (Guilford, C.T.) hit the crossbar with a shot and then just seconds later, Kyle Fisk (Pennelville, N.Y.) had a great chance blocked by a Cardinal player. Less than a minute later, Clarkson won a free kick 35 yards away from the goal. Parisi took a shot and it sailed past the Plattsburgh keeper to tie the game at 1-1.

With under 20 minutes to go, Clarkson looked like they would at least come away with a tie. However, at 73:44, Fabian Chaparro stole the ball from Clarkson and passed to Alexis Archilla who chipped it over onrushing Clarkson keeper Michael King (Verona, N.J.) to restore Plattsburgh's lead.

Just two minutes later, Plattsburgh would score again when Chaparro passed to Nicholas Laurent who found himself behind the Clarkson defense with only the keeper to beat. Laurent successfully finished the breakaway and scored the final goal of the game.

Clarkson will return home after six straight road games when they play neighbors SUNY Potsdam on Sunday at 5:00 pm on Hantz Turf Field.
