Senior Matthew Gold scored a game-high four goals to highlight a strong outing by the Class of 2015 on Senior Day at Hantz Turf Field as the Clarkson University Lacrosse team locked up a berth in the Liberty League playoffs by defeating Vassar 15-11 on Saturday.

The Golden Knights, who closed out the regular season with a 7-7 overall record and a 4-3 Liberty League mark, are the fourth seed in the conference postseason tournament and will play at number-one seed Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday. RIT is the number-one ranked team in the country with a perfect 16-0 record, including a 7-0 Liberty League mark.

Seven different Knights scored goals as Clarkson improved its all-time record against Vassar (6-9, 1-6) to 15-0. Senior Mark Nortz and sophomore Ryan St. Croix both scored three goals. St. Croix also added three assists for a game-high six points.

Gold, who also recorded an assist in the win, pushed his career point total over 100 with 73 goals and 29 assists through 57 games.

After battling the Brewers to a 1-1 tie through the opening 15 minutes, Clarkson would score nine of the next 12 goals to hold a commanding 10-4 lead early in the second half. The Knights outscored Vassar 6-3 in the second quarter and then tallied three quick goals to start the third stanza for a six-goal lead less than three minutes into the half.

Clarkson led 12-7 through three quarters. The Green and Gold built their margin to 15-8 with 6:25 to play before Vassar cut the deficit by scoring the game's last three goals.

Sophomore Sam Houston-Read paced the Brewers with three goals. Junior Noah Parson and sophomores Chris Billups and Liam Moriarty each tallied twice for Vassar.

Clarkson outshot the Brewers 48-29 and controlled ground balls 40-17.

Senior Dylan Broomfield dominated at the "X" for the Knights, winning 25-of-30 faceoffs while scooping up a season-high 16 ground balls.

Freshman Matthew Milne scored twice for the Knights, while senior Corey Herrington, junior JR Campbell and freshman Sam Groves rounded out the Clarkson offense with one goal apiece.

Sophomore Nick Strandholm made eight saves in the win. Vassar freshman Erik Mikelinich finished with 19 stops.

The Knights will face RIT for the third time in the past four years in the Liberty League playoffs. Clarkson battled the Tigers in the 2013 tournament championship game in Rochester, falling 10-9 in overtime. The Green and Gold also played at RIT in the 2012 playoffs, losing 12-4. The two teams play in Potsdam this regular season with the Tigers gaining a 16-7 win on March 21.
