Potsdam, NY – After dominating the third quarter of Wednesday's contest, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team proved to be out of gas in the fourth period as Plattsburgh State held off the Golden Knights 12-6 in non-league action at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss, while Plattsburgh evened its mark at 2-2.

Plattsburgh scored three of the game's first four goals in the first 15 minutes to take a lead it would never relinquish, but the most impressive goal of the quarter belonged to Clarkson's J.R. Campbell as the senior recovered a groundball while on the ground in front of the net and fired a shot while never getting back to his feet. Unfortunately for the Knights, Campbell's score was the highlight of the first half as Plattsburgh made the most of its opportunities, tallying seven times on just 14 total shots in the opening 30 minutes, including three goals in the final 150 seconds of the second quarter.

Though the momentum was all going for the Cardinals entering the break, Clarkson would shift the energy coming out of the locker room. Clarkson scored a man-up goal at the 13:59 mark of the third and Ryan St. Croix scored two more times in the next three minutes to pull Clarkson to within two with 11 minutes remaining. Following a Kyle Brown score at 9:25 of the third, the Knights again found themselves within two (8-6), but that was the end of the Knights offense. Plattsburgh took control in the fourth quarter with a 22-7 edge in shots and a four of five showing on faceoffs to retain possession and squash any hopes of a Clarkson comeback.

Ryan St. Croix scored three times and Brown added three points with a pair of goals and an assist for the Knights while Campbell also added a goal. Marc Simmons led the team with six groundballs. For Plattsburgh, Ryan Hubbard had five points on four goals and an assist and Brendan Damm found the net three times. Joey Kromer won 14 of the 21 faceoffs for the Cardinals and tied for the team lead, along with Anthony DeCeglia, with six groundballs.

Clarkson's Nick Strandholm made eight saves in the crease, while Plattsburgh had split time with Matt Massaria and Keith Cakoyanis. Massaria played the first half and allowed just two goals on 10 shots on net and Cakoyanis made five saves on nine shots on goal in second-half relief duty. Plattsburgh finished the game with a 43-36 edge in shots, but had trailed through three quarters 29-21 before its big fourth quarter.
