Three days after posting a rare shutout in men's lacrosse, Clarkson University struggled on the road Tuesday afternoon, falling to Nazareth 9-5 in Rochester, NY.

The Golden Knights, who saw a win streak come to an end at two games, stand at 2-2 overall. Clarkson opens Liberty League play on Saturday, hosting second-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology in a 1:00 p.m. game on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson, which had strung together over 106 minutes of shutout lacrosse over the past seven quarters, saw that streak come to an end early in the game against Nazareth (3-2). The Golden Flyers struck for a pair of goals less than a minute apart for a 2-0 lead with 8:52 left in the first quarter. Nazareth built its lead to 5-0 through the opening 15 minutes, and extended it to 6-0 early in the second quarter.

Freshman Sam Groves (Milton, NY) and senior Matthew Gold (Pittsford, NY) put the Knights on the scoreboard with goals at 5:46 and 4:22.

Nazareth's Jacob Gray scored with 3:05 remaining in the half to give the home team a 7-2 lead after 30 minutes.

The Knights outscored the Flyers 2-0 in the third quarter with sophomore Ryan St. Croix (Camillus, NY) and Groves connecting to cut the deficit to 7-4 after 45 minutes.

Nazareth sandwiched a pair of goals around a score by sophomore Ryan DaRin (Manlius, NY) in the fourth quarter to post the four-goal victory.

Clarkson outshot the Flyers 42-25.

Sophomore Nick Strandholm (Happy Valley, OR) posted five stops in the Knights' net.

Groves paced the Clarkson offense with two goals, while DaRin tallied three points on a goal and two assists. Senior Corey Herrington (Camillus, NY) also recorded two assists.

Luke Wooters led Nazareth with three goals.
