Owning a three-game unbeaten streak, the Clarkson University Hockey team closes out the season-opening, non-league portion of the schedule this weekend when it hosts Colorado College of the newly formed National Collegiate Hockey Conference at Cheel Arena. Both games are 7:00 p.m. faceoffs.

Guided by third-year head coach Casey Jones and assistant coaches Phil Roy '00 and Andy Jones, the Golden Knights stand at 4-1-1 overall. After this weekend's series against Colorado College, Clarkson begins ECAC Hockey action on the road at Brown and defending national champion Yale on November 1-2.

Led by senior captain Ben Sexton (Kanata, ONT), Clarkson skated to a 4-1 victory and a 3-3 tie against RIT in the season's first games at Cheel Arena this past weekend.

With another balanced offensive and defensive effort along with a solid outing in goal by sophomore Greg Lewis (Mars, PA) the Green and Gold were impressive in their home-opener. Playing in Potsdam for the first time this season the Knights came out with a solid 60 minutes, outshooting the Tigers 37-26 en route to their second straight win. Four different Clarkson players scored in the victory and 11 Knights recorded at least one point. Sophomore defenseman Paul Geiger (Stouffville, ONT) registered a team-high two points on a pair of assists in a complete Clarkson effort.

A pair of freshmen recorded their first collegiate goals to highlight the Knights' play on Saturday. Clarkson, however, had to settle for a tie as RIT scored twice in the third period to force the draw before a Parents' Weekend crowd of 3,320 fans. Rookies Jordan Boucher (St. Therese, QUE) and Troy Josephs (Whitby, ONT) scored their first goals to help the Green and Gold extend their unbeaten streak over RIT to 10 games (8-0-2).

Sexton and Geiger lead Clarkson in scoring with six points each, including a team-high five assists. Eighteen other Knights record at least one point. Making three starts apiece in the Clarkson crease, Lewis and freshman Steve Perry (Ligonier, PA) have been strong between the pipes. Lewis owns a .924 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average en route to a 2-1 record. Perry is unbeaten in his brief NCAA career with a 2-0-1 mark on a .937 save percentage and a 1.62 GAA.

A perennial national power in the old WCHA, Colorado College has made 20 NCAA Tournament appearances, the last in 2011. The Tigers, guided by 15th-year head coach Scott Owens, were picked to finish seventh out of eight-teams the NCHC preseason poll.

After a pair of exhibition wins, Colorado College officially opened its inaugural season in the NCHC with a weekend split against conference rival Minnesota-Duluth at the Colorado Springs World Arena. The Tigers relied upon a 30-save effort from Josh Thorimbert to earn the season-opening 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs on Friday. Thorimbert had another busy night on Saturday, making 39 stops, but Minnesota-Duluth pulled away for a 5-1 road win with three, third-period goals.

Colorado resumes NCHC play in early November with a road trip out to Western Michigan.

The Series:

Casey Jones will be looking to become the first Clarkson coach to lead the Golden Knights to a victory against Colorado College. The Tigers lead the all-time series 11-0-3, including three victories in the NCAA Tournament.

In their last four meetings, Clarkson has come close to recording its first victory in the series, but has come up just short. Last October the Knights dropped a pair of 5-4 games at the World Arena in Colorado Springs. The last time the two teams played in Potsdam, they battled to a pair of ties (1-1, 2-2) at Cheel Arena on October 24-25, 2008. Clarkson is 0-1-3 on Colorado College's home ice.

Pat Megannety has a team-high three points against Colorado College, including two goals. Jarrett Burton has also tallied twice in the series. Allan McPherson, Ben Sexton, James Howden and Simon Bessette have all scored once against the Tigers. Greg Lewis posts a .888 save percentage in 70 minutes of action against Colorado College.

With four contributing lines, a solid defense and two steady goaltenders Clarkson is receiving a balanced effort throughout the lineup. Each of the Knights' six rearguards have recorded at least one point, combining for four goals and nine assists … Junior Sam Labrecque (Granby, QUE) tallied his 13th career goal and first score since February 8 with the Knights' second goal on Saturday … Junior James Howden (Edgeley, SASK) and freshman James de Haas (Mississauga, ONT) are the other Clarkson defensemen to score a goal through the first six games … Sophomore forward Jeff DiNallo (Aurora, ONT) also has a three-game point-scoring streak. He has already matched his goal total (2) from his rookie campaign and in one point shy of equaling his point total (4) … Senior Allan McPherson (Kinburn, ONT) is leading all current Golden Knights in career points with 74 on 30 goals and 44 assists through 114 games. He has two goals and an assist this season … A.J.
