POTSDAM -- For the second straight night, junior defenseman James de Haas came through with the game-winner in overtime to lift the Clarkson University Hockey team to another thrilling 3-2 victory over Princeton in the ECAC Hockey playoffs at Cheel Arena.

de Haas converted a pass from senior Jeff DiNallo with a shot from the high slot with 2:37 remaining in the extra session to end Game 2 of the first round series. de Haas also tallied the winning goal in Friday's 3-2 Game 1 victory, scoring 65 seconds into the second overtime.

Clarkson improves to 20-13-3 overall and will now play archrival St. Lawrence in the best-of-three quarterfinal series next weekend at Appleton Arena in Canton, NY.

Princeton (5-23-3), the 12th seed in the playoffs, battled hard the entire series and forced overtime in Game 2 after trailing 2-0 early in the first period.

A slow start was not an issue for the Golden Knights in Game 2 as Clarkson came out strong and jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes. Freshman defenseman Aaron Thow started things off with his third goal of the season, connecting on a blast from the blueline that found its way through traffic at 4:34. Junior Perry D'Arrisso and sophomore Ben Dalpe assisted.

Senior Simon Bessette made it 2-0 at 9:41 with his first goal since the season opener. Classmate Jeff DiNallo set up the goal with hard work along the boards, freeing the puck and sending a centering pass to Bessette, who fired in a shot from the slot. Sophomore Dylan Gareau also assisted.

Princeton closed the gap in the second period to make it 2-1 through 40 minutes. Max Veronneau got behind the Clarkson defense and completed a 2-on-1 rush with linemate Alex Riche at 10:45, scoring his team-high 11th goal of the season. Ryan Kuffner also assisted.

Just two minutes into the third period the Tigers tied the game with a goal by Ben Foster on a shot from the high slot.

Clarkson had an excellent opportunity to end the game in regulation when the Green and Gold went on the power play with 69 seconds left in the third. The Knights could not connect with the man-advantage, but had 51 seconds of power play to start the extra session.

The Knights outshot the Tigers 47-33, including a 10-4 advantage in overtime. Senior goaltender Greg Lewis picked up his second career playoff victory with 31 saves. Colton Phinney made 44 stops for Princeton.

Clarkson went 0-of-2 on the power play and killed off all three of Princeton's man-advantage opportunities.
