With a pair of goals by junior Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) and a steady effort from junior goaltender Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) Clarkson University picked up two prized ECAC Hockey points on the road with a 2-1 victory over Colgate on Saturday night in Hamilton, NY.

With the win and favorable out-of-town results in the league on Saturday, the Golden Knights move back among the top four in the 12-team conference with a 10-6 ECAC Hockey slate. With six games remaining on the schedule, the Green and Gold are tied with Harvard for third place. The Knights are four points behind league-leader Cornell, who they lost to 5-0 on Friday in Ithaca.

Ranked 9/10th in the national polls entering the weekend, Clarkson is just one victory shy of reaching the 20-win mark for the second consecutive season, owning a 19-9 overall record. The Knights hosts Dartmouth and Harvard at Cheel Arena this coming Friday and Saturday.

At Class of 1965 Arena, Colgate (8-18-2, 5-9-2) outshot Clarkson 29-22, including a 12-4 advantage in the second period. Kielly, however, was up to the tasked and turned aside all but one of the Raiders' scoring chances.

For the first time in four games, the Green and Gold dented the twine first. Junior Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) won a board battle in the defensive zone and move the puck back into the right wing corner for junior defenseman Greg Moro (Edmonton, ALB). Moro had his head up and saw Egle open near the Colgate blue line and hit him with the long pass. Egle was able to fight off the Raider defenseman, get position inside the right circle and blow a slap shot over the shoulder of goaltender Mitch Benson at 14:16 to give Clarkson a 1-0 advantage that the Golden Knights would take into the first intermission.

In the second period, Colgate did a much better job of generating shots on Kielly, However the junior netminder continued to be stingy turning aside each of the Raiders' 12 shots to keep the home team at bay until Clarkson could generate some more offense.

After a couple of good scoring chances in the second period were stopped by Benson or blocked by the defense, the Knights finally capitalized late in the stanza.

Moro again made a quick pass up the wing, this time to Sturm. Sturm carried the puck over the blue line and found junior Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) in the middle of the ice on a three-on-two. Brosseau with his head up froze both the goalie and the defensemen before moving the puck to Egle, who connected on his second score of the night and fourteenth of the season with 1:42 remaining in the period.

The goals give Egle points in 10 of the last 12 contests. After seeing his 13-game point-scoring streak erased last night in the shutout at Cornell, Sturm got back on the score sheet by setting up both of Egle's goals.

In the final period, Colgate hunted for the equalizer and finally got on the scoreboard late in the game. Ben Scharf collected a loose puck in the circle by Clarkson's net and was able to slide a backhander through Kielly and into the back of the net at 14:31 to make it a one-goal game.

However, the Raiders would get no closer and the Green and Gold skated off to the one-goal road victory.
