CANTON -- Some depth in many races helped out, but taking the top two spots in the final relay proved to be the difference for the Clarkson University Men's Swim team, as the Golden Knights claimed a narrow seven-point victory, 117-110 over St. Lawrence Friday afternoon.
The Knights' men won the dual meet against St. Lawrence by finishing first and second in the 200 freestyle relay for 15 points.
Seniors Nick Clemens (Lowville, NY) and Aaron Kreher (Clarence, NY), and freshmen Tyler Nichols (Spencerport, NY) and Mike Tarsel (Baldwinsville, NY) won the relay with a time of 1:36.46, while the second place team for the Knights came in at 1:37.27.
Winning individual events for Clarkson were Paul Telesca (Liverpool, NY), Mike Rowe (Glenville, NY) and Chris Plummer (Spencerport, NY). Telesca won both the 50 freestyle (22.86) and 100 freestyle (51.22), showing some impressive conditioning this early in the season. Rowe picked up a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.08), and Plummer came in first in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.95).
The Clarkson women lost the dual meet against St. Lawrence, 136-75.
